1. Đuôi của Tên miền:
.com (Communication - Dành cho mọi đối tượng, cá nhân, doanh nghiệp)
.net (Network - Dành cho các nhà cung cấp dịch vụ web, net)
.org (Organization - Các tổ chức phi chính phủ hoặc bất lợi nhuận)
.edu (Education - Chỉ dành cho các trường đại học)
.gov (Government - Các website của chính phủ các nước)
.mil (Military - Các website thuộc quân đội các nước.)
2. Tên miền quốc gia:
Sau các đuôi chính của Tên miền còn có các đuôi phụ của các quốc gia. Các Tên miền có đuôi mang 2 ký tự biểu thị cho quốc gia như: .uk (Anh), .de (Đức), .ru (Nga), .us (Mỹ), .jp (Nhật Bản), .fr (Pháp), .vn (Việt Nam)...
3. Tên miền phụ:
Tên miền cấp 2, cũng có thể gọi là Tên miền dựa trên Tên miền khác. VD: mail.yahoo.com, aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com, .....

* Quy định khi đặt tên miền:
Tên miền không được vượt quá 63 ký tự (đã bao gồm phần .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info).
Tên miền chỉ bao gồm các ký tự trong bảng chữ cái (a-z), các số (0-9) và dấu (-). Khoảng trắng và các ký tự đặc biệt khác đều không hợp lệ.
Không thể bắt đầu hoặc kết thúc tên miền bằng dấu (-).
Tên miền của bạn không cần bắt đầu bằng http:// hoặc www hay http://www

- Rule 6: The domain to be built must be based on target customers
